Commentary - Part 2

This is the second part of yesterday's post....Google seemed to think that my post needed editing - stupid Google...so sorry about all the space in between the paragraphs :)

Now - on to the list....

5. Move your stocks

I dont have much to add except - DUH....

4. Learn a useful trade

All you bankers, stock brokers and car salesmen - you need to learn how to weld. You need to learn how to work with your hands...look up the Vo-tech in your area right now and take a few classes at night. Buy the tools, equipment, machinery that is needed. Start practicing around your house - learn how to fix things... Buy manuals, how-to books and a new education - do it now while you can still afford it and while you can still get into a class...

3. Store up food

Store up enough to ensure that you will be able to eat until you can grow some more - in fact store up more just in case your crop has issues. Learn how to eat different foods now - teach your children to eat different foods - save recipes that will be used on foods out of your pantry. There is a great amount of peace when you look at a pantry running over. Learn how to hunt, clean a kill, wring a chicken's neck, pull feathers, eviscerate, dress and cook. Learn how to hatch eggs - learn everything from start to finish....

2. Relocate and/or by an RV

The fact that there are any people still living in Ohio is almost beyond me....not all of Ohio, but anywhere near Detroit. Employers arent falling over themselves to throw jobs at people's feet, but I see signs and hear advertisements daily about places that are still hiring in my area. MOVE THERE... Take extended family with you if you need and if they will go. Extended families have a head start in regards to survival. Many hands make light work - more men - more women - working towards a common goal. Blessings beyond tangibles will be yours and your kids if your extended family is in the picture.

Sorry - got off topic - back to the RV part.... On the surface, you may question the purchase of an RV if you are in such dire straights, but we arent talking about a million dollar diesel pusher - we are talking about a used bumper-pull or a 5th wheel if you have a truck. It will keep your family dry, warm and infinitely safer than being homeless or sleeping in your car. It will give you a place to get clean which is important as you search for work. It makes you mobile and able to follow work and avail yourself of opportunities as they present themselves.

1. Buy firearms

Protection - Food - Protection - Food - Protection

Learn how to use it - buy plenty of ammunition, otherwise its just a really expensive rock.

Bonus:

I have a real problem with the post's bonus.... I understand if you are afraid you wont be able to feed your family and such, but by the time you really are afraid of that, do your credit cards still work? In a total break down of the system, do credit cards work? Doing as the post suggests makes someone not any better than those bastards in Washington who are spending taxpayer monies. When you buy on credit, you give your word you will pay it back - its a contract - almost a handshake deal - dont break your word. You are more honorable than that - you are a Patriot - you are an American - you ARE We The People.

So - the second day, not as good as the first....was not near as inspired - sorry.... I will flog myself this evening and have something prepared for tomorrow ;) Happy Hump Day - enjoy...

What are you trying to do? Start the Oklahoma land rush in reverse? I don't agree with the RV or the camper trailer thing. I think even junk land is a better deal. An RV just makes you a highclass refugee. Land ownership makes you a stable citizen in the eyes of the powers that be.

I agree with the credit card issue. When a person borrows money, they agree to pay it back. Plain and simple. To deliberatly set out to do otherwise is dishonorable, as well as illegal.

Staying Alive - this is about bottom of the heap, survival in a Depression. You may not have a job and an RV affords you the ability to go where the jobs are....

Junk land makes you immoble and at the height of the worse, the last thing you need to be worrying about is if the Powers that Be, view you as a stable citizen...they wont be thinking of you at all...

If you are able to ride out a Depression, food storage, able to grow/raise your food, provide for a little pocket money - then junk land is absolutely the best way to go as long as everything is paid for :)

Pearls,

Love the posts (yesterdays and todays both). And I just wanted to say that I agree with you. I have skills with my hands and I find all sorts of reasons to practice.

As for the credit cards, I highly recommend Dave Ramsey as he gives ways to pay off your debt and to stay out of it so that if this ever happens no one can put liens on your property or belongings.

Good Job!

Just a quick note....Detroit is in Michigan(this article seems to put it in Ohio). And if ever there was a place that sucks more than Cleveland, Ohio, it is Detroit, Michigan!

OH MY WORD!!!!! I am an idiot!

I had a little person, pulling on me with the Mommy Mommy Mommy going and I was just trying to finish as fast as I could...

I will leave it as is as a testament to sometimes I can just be an idiot :)

I know a fellow who lives in a nice trailer down in Florida, but he has a great truck/travel trailer combination in reserve. Gives him the best of both philosophies.

I ask the same thing about gold/silver as you do about credit cards. If the system breaks down, why in the world would I want to trade you a *good* for a rock? I have beef/milk/whatever and you want to trade me a piece of metal for it? Sure, it's a cool piece of metal, but until the system comes back online, it is perfectly worthless to me.

I wasn't gonna mention anything about Detroit/Ohio. . .Ohio is kinda sorta close to Detroit, so I just left it alone. :-)

I think I'm gonna agree with Michael here... My RV dreams are simply to get me that land. I'm beginning to think "screw the RV, go for the land".....

I just have a hard time getting on board with the survivalist thing. We are not in the Great depression. We aren't even as bad as we were in the 70s. This is more akin to the 80s right now. And yes, it probably will get worse, but I highly doubt it will get to the 30s level. Although if anyone can do it, it's the Messiah.

I have been stock piling. We have lots of batteries. We have a generator. We could probably live without power for weeks, if not months.

But I just don't see the entire system collapsing in some sort of Armageddon style catastrophe.

I just think most of the advice is sound regardless of the times we live. Everyone should be responsible for themselves.

I'd also add that if things do get hideous, guns WILL be necessary to fend off looters and those who did not prepare (not that I wouldn't willing share, but don't try to take anything by force or else!).
