We went to a farm auction this weekend.... A couple had several parcels of land as well as a TON of farm equipment, tools, and stuff to sell. They had built a beautiful new home and now were done with farming - retiring.
There was just about everything you could imagine, tons of tractors, generators, 4 wheelers, trailers, bull dozier, an RV, trucks, welding equipment, tools, you name it....the list just went on and on.
The auction for the "stuff" started at 10:00 a.m. and the land was to be auctioned off later in the day. My family, my brother's family and my father all were there and we all had eyes on different things - stuff to handle livestock, a metal wagon ( not a trailer, but 4 tired wagon), ATVs, generator....just a bunch of stuff.
This wasnt our first auction by a long shot - we have bought new and we have bought used - we know what to pay for what....
The ATVs - one went for RETAIL and the other one went for just below retail and it needed a new starter.
This was just an example that people are still nuts. Granted it was a beautiful day and many people were there just enjoying and probably got caught up in the moment, but I would have LOVED to hear the farmboy explaining his $5000 USED ATV to the wife.... I hope he bought the RV, because I bet he will need to be sleeping in it for a bit.
When I heard the generator get to "12" (as in $12,000), I tuned him out....
What we got, we got cheap and in GREAT condition, but we didnt go home with everything we would have liked....we will continue to visit auctions and Craigslist to get items for the farm.
All this to say, if you want some cash, put it in your front yard and call it an auction......and make sure its a pretty day....

That must have been one heck of a generator.
I guess the generator came with a full fuel tank to reach that value. ;)
