If you squint real hard, you cant tell us apart...

Me and Benjamin Franklin, that is....

We are the same, he and me....

I see myself (and by extension all you fab bloggers out there) as modern day Pamphleteers. We write our letters, our tirades, our persuasion down and send it out to the masses. We no longer stand on street corners and yell, or send children to sell our papers, but we put it out there nonetheless.

We raise the consciousness of those around us by engaging in humor, debate, facts and the occasional fear mongering. I am not above scaring the crap out of those that I love to get them to see where this Country is going and to be prepared. Now, I am not sure Ole Ben would use the word "crap", but then, he very well may have...

I know it seems like its getting all hot and bothered without the payoff, but dont underestimate the power of our words or the passion they evoke. How many years did Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Paine publish their words before action was taken? How many years were the same cries of oppression ignored by so many of the populace?

Dont ever think that your words fall on deaf ears - that not enough hear and take heed to the warnings. If this were true, we would be Loyalists to this day....If this were true, 180 that died in the Alamo would have died in vain.

But we drink Coffee here - not prissy tea.... We worship the Marlboro man, John Wayne, Charleton Heston, Clint Eastwood and all those Die Hard movies.... There is a reason they dont film Merchant Ivory movies in America.

We are Patriots - I contend that more are than arent. I contend that those of us who get frustrated are not alone - Its exhausting to feel you ring a bell - a warning bell - as those around you either do not hear or choose to ignore...

I am tired and I am frustrated. I am angry and I am royally pissed off....I will however, never quit. I may take time to refresh my spirit, but I will never quit. How could I when 56 men signed their lives and their fortunes away with the Declaration of Independence.... They risked everything for the POSSIBILITY of Freedom - they gambled everything for a chance of LIBERTY.

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Natural Law and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

This is the first part of the Declaration of Independence....There is a reason that children arent expected to memorize it anymore....Its dangerous. It is POWERFUL....

When in the Course of Human Events - our events, today - It becomes NECESSARY for ONE PEOPLE to DISSOLVE the POLITICAL BANDS which have connected them with another and to ASSUME AMONG THE POWERS OF EARTH....

There are not more powerful words written to those cowards in Washington.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

It is obvious, Washington, that we were given these rights by God Himself. And you in Washington, have your position only at WE THE PEOPLE'S whim and we believe you are destructive, it is our RIGHT - it is our DUTY to throw off you, Washington DC and provide for OURSELVES for OUR FUTURE SECURITY.

After reading those words, dont ever for a minute think that you are a mere blogger and that your words carry no weight or measure. These words, your words, our words, have thrown off oppression in the form of Great Britain and they will surely throw off those that currently oppress.

We are WE THE PEOPLE.....

HERE HERE!!! I can only pray that our collective voices somehow get heard in that country club in DC.

Did you know that there is $30M to protect mice in San Fran in the "stimulus" bill?

That'll stimulate the economy. Our gov't at work. *sigh*

I don't know what to say...except that you have touched me with this post.

In is in post like this that we realise that we are NOT alone, and that we all have a common goal.

All we ask for is the rights that are ours and the freedom from the oppression that seems to always be hanging over us.

I am standing here beside myself.... Excellent times ten! I wish I had half the passion of Ben Franklin. He's one of my heroes, and a man I try to emulate as much as humanly possible. Like you, I reckon we might be related..... You truly are a "rare Pearl"! Rock on!
