A Way to take the Union WITH Us

This was absolutely inspired by a comment by a brilliant reader, Nels. Her comment to the post about Patriots saying SHOVE IT, was the following:

If 34 states want to leave the union, then it isn't secession, it's a constitutional convention. Thirty four states can leave, and take the union with them. It's in the constitution.

She is right - of course she is...I am also assuming its a "she" and if "she" is a "he" I am so sorry...

Anyway - it was the attitude adjustment / focus adjustment I needed. Why did I feel hopeful, inspired, embolden, empowered by just reading the comment?

I shouted YES because there is a sense of "giving up" with Secession - we would no longer be part of the USA. And I LOVE the USA - there would be a sense of loss, being adrift, true sorrow, thinking I was no longer an American. Thats not to say that I dont think I could get over this feeling rather quickly by wrapping myself in Liberty and Freedom, but still....

A CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION is keeping MY American - actually it would be keeping Jefferson, Washington, Franklin, Adams, Payne - it would be keeping THEIR America and I want THEIR America. I would trade MY America for theirs ANY DAY OF THE WEEK.

It would be kicking out those that have defiled Liberty by just using the phrase "common sense gun laws", by mixing Public and Private enterprises, by "licensing" everything to death, by establishing the current tax system.... It would kick out those that have tried to turn the Free Market into a dirty word....

It would put the Federal Govt in their place - let them know they get to be in charge of treaties, military and interstate commerce... Imagine telling the FEDS and the UN, not just get out, but take a flying, flailing leap?

The difference between Convention and Secession is the difference between empowered and defeated - it IS OUR Country. My focus now should be working on my local Govt officials - to prepare them to act when another state starts their rumblings. To build a brotherhood, a kinship, with other likeminded states.

34 - its all we need - Off the top of my head here are the ones I think would attend:

Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, South/North Carolinas, Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, Georgia, Kansas, South/North Dakota, IDAHO, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Alaska, Missouri, Indiana, Iowa

Thats 24....We need just 10 more - just 10....I also think you would be able to appeal those states that have voted "blue" for so long, I cant remember EVER seeing them "red". But this isnt a "Conservative" thing - its a FREEDOM thing... I believe that there are states out there that would LOVE to be FREE...

I think you could add:

Oregon, Washington, Maine, Vermont

We only need 6 more....Just 6....

Maybe Pennsylvania....Maybe Minnesota.....Maybe YOUR state....

Dont think that all these states will get together and decide to hold one...I dont see all their "Public Servants" in DC offering to do this. There WILL be a catalyst. There will be the straw that breaks the back of Freedom and She Cries ENOUGH.

I bolded IDAHO for a reason previously. I think this will be the first state to say ENOUGH. It will then be our OBLIGATION to rally our states around IDAHO and demand our Convention. But we need to be ready to act - We need to be talking casually with our friends, acquaintances, planting the seeds to start to germinate. Why Idaho? I have no idea - maybe its reverence tip to the great JWR and www.SurvivalBlog.com - but its a gut thing - and I listen to my gut and it has a pretty accurate success rate.

Make no mistake, I continue to prep my survival lists, my pantry, my supplies. I will prepare my home and my family/friends and my mind for a situation that requires us to take care of ourselves. But I will NO LONGER do it out of FEAR, I will act out of PURPOSE, HOPE, STRENGTH because we are right. Thats it - WE ARE RIGHT - we are WE THE PEOPLE....

Pray, Praise, Prepare

Interesting.
Had a brief conversation with Husband about something very similar last night. Um, let's just say that Mr. LEO wasn't real thrilled to hear that wifey-poo is a secessionist. ;) Maybe it'll help since I can tell him I'm really a CONVENTIONIST! Not sure how much it'll help, but it's something. :)

I agree. I'm for it.

MM- consider me working on MN- hopefully we can come up with the rest. I'll probably end up in prison since I read the state constitution last nite...still worth a try. This state is red as red can be, though, dammit (pardonne le Francoise' moi). My neighbors are about ready to fire on me- lol, one, anyway!

MeadowLark - did you try real hard to convince him that you are a peaceful secessionist? its not like you are a anarchist :)

mmpaints - good - theres another vote!

shy - with you on it I will move MN to the win column!

as the guiness bhoys say: brilliant! i'll second a motion for pennsylvania, with one caveat: be careful what we wish for. the enemy have agents, and sleepers all over. they could hijack our convention and try to turn the remainder of our rights into priveleges. although we all know that a constitution isn't the source of our rights, their "education system" has turned most of our neighbors into numbskulls.

Don't count out the New England states! We have a long, proud history of rebellion against tyrannical governments. Some examples- the Boston Tea Party, Lexington & Concord. Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys.

I get a tad rankled at the broad generalization that all of New England is one big socialist, liberal wasteland. I am prepping in New England, and proud to be a frugal Yankee!

Yankee - I did not intend to rankle. New Englanders tend to be VERY independent minded - at least the ones that I have met that were BORN there...

See, I stuck my foot in my mouth again - I am going to get an email from someone that was born West of the Mississippi and are now in New England and they are going to point out my error...

All that to say we will NEED New England - Need them like the USA needed them the first time around. And believe me, Yankee, we KNOW it!!

Oregon... There is a movement to separate Eastern Oregon from the Portland and Salem crowd (Oregon's equivalent to DC}. Eastern Oregon folks are right there with the Idaho folks! Call us 1/2 a state?

Most interesting.

Illinois: if you get rid of Chicago.

Washington? Much like Sam pointed out: Only if you get rid of Seattle. Seattle's turning into Chicago.

Politically speaking, Seattle's effectively a San Francisco suburb. Anything that happens there shows up here within 12 months.

Excellent idea!
I'm afraid I'd pull Iowa off the list- too many farmers addicted to the FedGov teat over here.

One of a thousand reasons we bought land in Wyoming.

Love the blog, BTW! Glad Tam @ VFTP mentioned ya.

Also, if we could just ADD more states to the union first, and skew the numbers...what about PR? I hear there is some rumbling up Alberta way, as well...or even split existing states to increase numbers...aren't these games FUN?

I also came here via Tam and this is a great idea! I'm glad to find you.

Very interesting idea.

Is Idaho still more Mormon than Utah? I know it was for a long time, but that may have changed.

I can see things getting to where they, as a church, say enough is enough. Then you'd see AZ, UT, ID, WY, maybe even NV go along fairly easily.

Nels is a male name, and I am a he.

The down side of that insight is that 34 states can call a constitutional convention and destroy what the founding fathers built. Your roll call of red states is fatally short of 34, I fear. I suspect that if the socialists thought they had 34 in their camp, they would call a convention immediately.

My expectation is that they will wait until a few more states are a little more urbanized, until a few more people are dependent on government, until the auto workers, your banker and your doctor are government employees. Maybe 2011, if they win the elections in 2010? Then we'll see the socialists call that convention, take the union with them, and trash our freedom.
