A Coke and a Smile....

It may just be me - but as things FEEL more stressful, I have made a conscious effort to be kind to those around me. Those that wait on me, those that check me out, those that need to turn into traffic...just those around me.

I know its just the "script" for drive thrus, but when one of them asks how I am, I tell them good and then ask them the same question. So often they are surprised at my interest in them and not just getting on with the order. Their voice changes and they are smiling when I pull around. It feels good to give someone a reason to smile, even if the jerk behind me will ruin in ;)

Hold the door for someone - even if that someone is a man, a few feet behind, so you have to wait - whatever.

Smile

Let someone in regarding traffic and smile. They are usually so relieved because they probably have been sitting a while.

The nicest effect has been on my own personal well being. I am not blue - I am not miffed - I am pleasant - go figure! Being stressed is an energy zapper for me and changing (or at least trying to) my approach is just an energy boost.

I know this is a little "feel good" post and not the usual, but if the smiling doesnt work out, you can shoot them....but I bet it ruins your day.

* THE ABOVE PART ABOUT SHOOTING THEM WAS A JOKE - YOU CANT SHOOT PEOPLE THAT YOU DONT LIKE....

Thank you for the politically correct disclaimer... 'cause I was going to blame you and your blog if it happened! ;)

Funny.
I do that as often as possible.
Chivalry isn't dead with me.
The wifey pokes fun at me when I talk to people on the phone because I'm so nice. I always hold the door, be it a man or woman.
The bad part of it is, if I don't get a "Thank you" out of it, I give a response of "Your welcome!" I suppose that may be wrong of me, but, its a simple thing.
The area I live in is full of people like that. The kind of people who will disobey a yield sign and flip me "the bird" because they think i'm the idiot. Most of the reason I am looking into the possibility of moving away from here.
I think it just may be too late now considering the state of the economy.
Ahh well. Chin up with a smile anyway.

Don't be a garbage can. As in allowing someone who is having a bad day throwing their crap on you and making it become your problem - leave it in the garbage.

MeadowLark - if I didnt, I didnt want to be called as someone's defense ;)

Western Mass - LOVE a REAL man! You need to move to the South where we appreciate manners (for the most part...)

Anon - I dont remember writting about taking someone's crap - I wrote about being nice so someone doesnt have a crappy day...

I hold doors, chat with the clerks (I know all of 'em by name at my "regular" store...), and generally try to be pleasant. Some folks make it aweful hard sometimes...... I don't get why some people have to be a$$holes. What's the point? Guess they just want everyone else to be as miserable as they are.....

It's really all about relieving stress. Don't let others bring you down to their level. A smile is always good, even if it is just to make someone wonder what you are up to.
