Katrina or Mad Max

There doesnt seem to be a debate IF there will be some kind of event....just what kind. Will the event that sends you home to your stash be like Katrina or more like Mad Max (This is a reference to the movies Mad Max, Mad Max 2 and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome).

Now - looking at the 2, Katrina would be the "easy" scenario - but was it really?

Electricity - GONE
Water - GONE / Contaminated
Food - Grocery stores GONE
Shelter - if you have it still standing - ISOLATED / On your own / In shelters
Emergency Help - GONE

Looting - CHECK
Confiscating Firearms - CHECK
Life/Death Situations - CHECK

So what was "easy" about Katrina?

Katrina offered us the opportunity to see in one area what WILL happen just about nationwide when people become desperate. When they are cold....when they are scared....when there isnt clean water....when there isnt enough food.....when local law enforcement fears their armed citizens.... when people are faced with choices they didnt prepare for or see coming.

Again...YOU NEED TO PREPARE...more than just food, clean water, sanitation, protection - you need to mentally walk yourself through some of the situations people in New Orleans faced. What would you do about neighbors who are hungry? What would you do if people try to loot? What would you do if the Police knocked on your door and DEMANDED you turn over all firearms?

What if you have to flee? Does each of your family members have a bug out bag - 72 hour kit? A bag filled with what keep your family member alive, fed, warm, for 72 hours? What about your car? How prepared is your car? How full is your gas tank? What if it stalls in this freezing weather? What if highways are gridlocked and this is where you find yourself? What if you have to stay in your car during this time? What if you are having to move out of the city immediately?

Not only do you need to prepare your home and your car to take care of your family, you need to prepare your family for certain situations. Mentally prepare....mentally prepare for hard decisions....mentally prepare for feeling isolated....mentally prepare to keep your faith up that you will get through this situation.

Survival is not just about keeping the body fed, its about keeping the SPIRIT FILLED....

**Please also know the laws of your city and state. At the time of the event, it may seem like law and order are on vacation, but it will COME BACK. When you make decisions, remember you may/will answer for those decisions at a later time. Know the rules - know the consequences of your actions.

I'll go ahead and post anonymously for this.

The "gun grab" scenario really bothers me. But not for the reason you think. Mostly because someone I know quite well is probably going to be asked to DO the gun grab. And what shall be the response?

Sigh. This has been a season full of deep thought. I'm really ready to go back to trivial living and gin. ;)

There's a book called "The Great New Orleans Gun Grab" that goes into some detail about the breakdown of law and order in New Orleans. It's worth the few dollars it costs.

I'm essentially rooted in place, because my retreat is my permanent residence. But I live so far out in the woods, about the only real immediate threat I have to deal with is forest fire.

Anon - I email with someone who is in the military and I asked him this question. He said it would be a personal problem for him but he would "follow" orders. Meaning he would take his own sweet time, go door to door, and would ask if there was anything they thought they needed to give him while shaking his head side to side in the "no" shake...

I do not envy their position. I know what I would do on my end - if they had a list, they would get the guns on the list - the other ones wont be anywhere near...But if they ask if I have anything to give them, it will be a "No sir, good luck with your position..."

dammit, another sleepless night worrying about what the hecks gonna happen WTHSHTF or even before, since I imagine a gun harvest being a prelude. Obammys civilian military corps doing the nasty work and they aint taking no for an answer, will shoot first and brag later. In my situation, I have to ask them what guns? I don't own any. A lie of course but they dont need to know. If they let me get away with it without checking is debateable.
Constitutionally we can refuse them entering our home, but what makes anyone think they will follow the law? After all, what theyll be doing is against the law right away. Not that Obammy cares for law.
NRA has a video out named Never Again about the NO gun grab and warns it wont happen again. Well, I don't think Im too sure about that with the way the gubmint is going.
As to friends and family in the military or on PD forces coming to take guns, some will some wont
Scares hell out of me no matter how it goes down. I dont want to kill someone over my guns but it isnt going to be over my guns its going to be over the Constitution and what it means to me and others.

Two quotes that address this problem immediately come to mind:

A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government. --George Washington

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. --Thomas Jefferson

Once they take our guns they can take our homes, food, supplies, families and lives. Remember what the German government of the 1930s and 40s did to an unarmed Jewish population.
