No flame retardent suits needed here....

(Title taken from The Other Mike S.'s comments in the previous post) He writes No Nanny State and everyone should read. Click his name above and be magically transported there immediately.

Anyway - you wouldnt think a topic like "Torture" would bring out the warm and fuzzies in me, but it has - well, basically, the comments section has. Mostly because there has been major disagreement without discord.

We do not agree - we have been civil - we have tried to be persuasive and we have remained kind and supportive to those that hold a different view.

DHS wouldnt believe us "Right Wing Extremists" had it in us :)

Still thinking on this - reviewing the positions taken on the other side.... To just disregard out of hand because I happen to not agree would be foolish - its in challenging ourselves that we grow or at least know why we believe something we believe.

Thanks guys (Everyday Prepper Radio Blogger) - you make me better!

It's amazing what happens when people act like adults and discuss things rationally huh :)

Who'da thunk it?

Now, if we can teach this high brow discussion technique to the left, we would be golden....

Unfortunately we need to teach it to both sides. My cousin is a very hot tempered conservative that drives people away just because he is so abrasive.

Begin soapbox rantIn my opinion if we want the constitutionalists / libertarian view point to make an impact in the world we need to get a person who is founded in and believes the constitution and also is very charismatic. As much as I like Ron Paul he just wasn't charismatic enough to have a real chance. People turned off the tv or tuned him out just because he couldn't deliver a pretty speech. I hate that our society is like that but it's the truth :(
End soapbox rantLet's teach everyone how to listen and have a real conversation and maybe the person telling the truth will win the next election :)

(sorry for the soap box speech)

Thank you Pearls, without calm discourse we cannot learn, sadly that abrasive north eastern elitism has permeated the MSM and public politics, along with party promotion - it has taken America to the depth of ignorance we have now.

Ron Paul's biggest problem was that he is an intellectual with out the arrogant abrasive side, nor the foul habits necessary for political climbing. Without the habits that make skilled manipulators no one in ignorant America will vote for you.

If you want to see just how uncomfortable the Ron Paul for President campaign made them see YouTube for Hillary Clinton mention it in committee - the uncomfortable nervousness was palatable.

"Conservatives" are shocked when they see the facts about Sadam H. and the Mujahideen/Osama as a CIA asset - drives them nuts to see how badly the CIA has made our graves for us...

Just why did the CIA train "radical Muslim fundamentalists"... to turn them lose on the USSR, they would eventually turn on us, in some cases with our own weapons... There was a time (and I remember this clearly) when the "Evil Muslim fundamentalists" were called "Freedom Fighters" by Ronald Reagan.

The definition of "terrorists" for our government changes with the need for propaganda...

I weep for our lost Republic.

Firstly, thanks, Pearls, for the kind words.

Regarding Ron Paul, when I read his words, I get so enthused and hopeful. I think, "There's someone in power, spreading the word about how this country should be governed".

But then he gets on the tube, and I almost feel like a deflated balloon. As the others have noted, he has no pizzazz. All steak and no sizzle. That just doesn't sell.

Barry has the smoothness, the self-confidence and the delivery to sell an entire nation a bag of air (carbon free, of course).

I just don't see any honorable people with a libertarian point of view out there on the horizon. At least none that are willing to run for office.

And it would likely make no difference anyways. When fully half of the country pays no taxes, yet gets the lion's share of the benefits, why would you want "change"?

When the producers finally call it quits and the social program honey stops flowing, the feces is going to hit the fan in a big way.

And that my friends is why this country will fail, we will fail because we don't want to read or think, we want 24 hour cartoons and sports, we want powerpoint presentations rather than detailed reports, we want attractive charts and a quick summery on the front page...

That is how Enron was able to "pull the wool over" and how this country went from freedom to socialism in less than a generation.

Rather than pick a true Statesman like RP we wanted "pizzaz" and we got it - a slick narcissistic SALESMAN - a hollow man of no substance, but the other pick was no better a social climber and daddies boy McCain who left his wife for a new trophy wife (that alone is enough to make me despise the man) a retard dumber than the Chimp in Chief...

Did any of you catch RP nail him in the debates about the "President's working group on finance" he (RP) even had a little smirk on his face because he KNOWS McCain and how stupid he is... Most Americans missed it and of course McCain flubbed the answer like an unprepared fifth grader who does not even understand the question.

Thomas Jefferson warned us about how an uneducated population would drag the country into ruin... But we continue to worship sports over brains, pretty over talent, craftiness over wisdom, I hope our new slavery will not be too harsh...

Yeah, in the perfect America, we wouldn't consider such things at TV image and star-power. But it is what it is. You must have some sizzle to get elected.

This past election cycle I quite often noted that I would no longer vote for "the lesser of two evils" - to me, the majority of Ds and Rs are indistinguishable. A vote for either would get us the same result, just a little faster or slower depending upon who won.

Yep, and we are failing now and will continue to fail for it.

We have traded our Republic for Empire, style over substance - and we have gotten what we deserve for our ignorance - Obama and a new New Deal, and a new Depression.
