WRONG WRONG WRONG

On so many levels, TAXING THE AIG BONUSES IS WRONG....

To some, it may feel good - I contend if it feels good that these people are being taxed, you have wealth envy and have fallen for the crap that is being shoveled from Washington - you see, when you believe that someone doesnt deserve something that they have a CONTRACT ENTITLING THEM TOO, or that you feel they didnt earn it or that they have too much already, the Government has won.

Let not him who is houseless pull down the house of another, but let him work diligently and build one for himself, thus by example assuring that his own shall be safe from violence when built.
Abraham Lincoln quotes (American 16th US President (1861-65), who brought about the emancipation of the slaves. 1809-1865)

The only way to ensure that what YOU WORK SO HARD FOR is safe, is to ensure that you make sure that what those around you work for is safe....I am not safe if my neighbor is not safe and so on and so on....

Taxing the AIG bonuses gives the Government THE RIGHT TO TAX AFTER THE FACT ANY GROUP THEY DECIDE THEY DONT LIKE.... This is dangerous. Do you do anything that the Government - THIS GOVERNMENT - might not like? What about where you shop? Do you own guns? Does your church teach that Homosexuality is wrong? Do your kids go to private school? Do you home school?

See....if you allow the Government to get away with this, you might not be safe - in fact, I can guarantee you wont be safe....

We cannot allow this to happen - we cannot allow this Government to take this UNCONSTITUTIONAL step as they have done so many times before. To allow the Government to take this step, puts us on a path to Revolution.....either a Socialistic Revolution or another War for Independence and/or Secession.

More than TARP, more than each Stimulus, more than the Bailouts, this current taxation of the AIG bonuses uses our Constitution as toilet paper. This type of taxation is expressly FORBIDDEN and Washington just doesnt seem to care.....why should they? Whos going to stop them?

Article 1, Section 9 of our Constitution:

No Bill of Attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed.

This means that you cant go back and tax something or make a law against something and then prosecute someone for doing it BEFORE it was against the law....

I guess no one in Congress has read the Constitution....Surprise, Surprise, Surprise....

Pearls I completely agree with you on this. At first I thought "HA! Now let's see you waste our tax money". My next reaction was more righteous anger, not at AIG (for doing something they have every right to do) but at our .gov for being so stupid as to give them a check without making it apart of the deal that they can't do stupid stuff with it.

I talked to my wife about this last night and she started out mad at AIG and by the time I finished she was even mad at .gov for doing this.

If we let .gov get away with putting a 90% tax on this without raising our voices they are going to think that they can do it anytime and anywhere to anything. I believe firmly that the power to tax is the power to oppress and we are handing our .gov a free ride on this because we are mad at the wrong people.

Don't be mad at AIG be mad at .gov for not doing their job.

I wrote about this yesterday. I hate all of the bailout garbage, but the pinheads in DC put it through, and they KNEW the bonus' were in there.

This is nothing but CYA smoke and mirrors, and in the process, they're desecrating the Constitution.

Thank you for the kind words. I'm not giving up on seeing raising meat animals through to the end, but I definitely think the next time "the end" rolls around, I'm going to have someone with experience with me1

Also, couldn't agree more about AIG. I'm r-e-a-l-l-y sick of hearing about it. It certainly didn't take long for John Q Public to strap his blinders back on.

Oh! And I know you will appreciate this...We finally decided on a middle name for the new baby.

Dang am I glad I follow you!!! I loved your post a couple of days ago about voting for them to keep it, and again I COMPLETLY AGREE!!It makes you wonder whats next?? How far will the government take this. Who's next?
Well for someone who preached so hard about changing gov spending and pulled in all those young voters he sure isn't changing WA.
I'm just disgusted with this whole thing really. It's all a "pay no attention to the man behind the curtain" scam.

I agree completely!!! Also, here is a question for the .gov....if you take 90% of the bonuses back through taxes does AIG get credit towards the repayment of their loans or do you expect more $$ from them thus essentially double collecting?

I have a co-worker who grew up in Argentina when it was going from an OK place to be to what it is today. He was saying, in the last few days, that the country really started to go down hill when people saw that social contracts didn't mean anything.

For example that "special" people don't have to follow the law even if they are the ones making or enforcing the law. Or being paid vast sums money for doing useless work. Pretty soon what happens is that there is the idea that if the big shots are getting away with it the little people should be able to also. Very shortly armed robbery, murder and rape follow on a large scale.

What you talked about here is a small part of the social contract being voided.
