Was it really a surprise? Really??

THIS NEWS STORY

The story above states that the NO MINARETS VOTE which actually added this law to the Swiss Constitution was a surprise vote. Really???

When people were asked if they would vote Yes/No, people overwhelming said they would not support the law. Its like asking people if they fart! I bet overwhelmingly the vote would be NO....but in the privacy of our own voting booths, in our own home, we all know a totally different reality ;)

Political correctness isnt just an American pain - its worldwide - In fact, I contend it started in Socialist Europe and emigrated here....

I love this vote - it goes to prove that you just cant legislate what people think....what they know in their guts.

Now, before every screams FREEDOM OF RELIGION - there is nothing that prohibits Muslims from worshipping. These Minarets arent a "salvation" issue for them. Its like saying you cant put a steeple on a church and actually, there are town ordinances that prevent steeples in this Country, but what it is a statement against is the feeling that Islam is steamrolling Europe - the world.

The Swiss took a stand - read that again... The SWISS took a STAND - how ironic.... God bless 'em...

Pray - Praise - Prepare

The "religion of peace" can kiss my a$$. They want sharia here, well I got rifles and ammo that says I don't. PC can go to hell, and I don't care who calls me what. "Hate monger"? Yeah, sure. Whatever. Just don't come a-knockin' at my door because you'll get a hot lead reception. Be warned all ye "peaceful" muslims....

Pearls,

I belief Germany has recognized that they will be a Muslim country by 2050 - with nothing happening but the Muslim birthrate of 8.2 children per couple continuing, where the non-Muslim rate in Europe is (an unsustainable) 1.8. It takes about 2.1 children per couple to sustain a culture for 25 years, according to a scare piece that circulated a while back.

The US and Canada have a birth rate of about 1.6 children per couple, unless you count the illegals from Mexico and China - that brings the US rate to about 2.1 or so. Of course, that also means that those of Mexican descent will eventually outnumber non-Mexicans.

And we think marrying later and having fewer children is better for America. Perhaps for the health of the bride, but that is debatable, too. Too many young mothers are overweight - which has been linked to increased infertility, increased risk of a difficult birth, and increased risk of birth defects.

Why is it surprising that Switzerland did this?

They are a strong free-market country. Everyone there owns a gun and serves in the military. They are like the Texas of Europe except way better than Texas.

They are a landlocked country that has had to deal with bullies for years. The reason Hitler didn't invade? Because everyone in Switzerland is armed with a rifle and knows how to use it.

Yes - the Swiss have conscription where civilians do keep their arms - however, due to their historical neutrality - I made a joke at their expense...

I believe the lack of Nazi invasion was due to the terrain as much as the armed households - they just lucked out... Hitler was pretty much stretched to thin and the war was too far gone by the time Operation Tannenbaum was drawn up although never implemented...

But it could also be argued that they claimed neutrality while being complicit in the financial ravaging of refugees and also protecting the Nazis...

Wha??? How did I get here?

Sorry - you talk history and I start drooling all over myself ;)

And yes, the Swiss rock - if they had our independent, self-sufficient, anti-Government streak, they would totally rule the world!! That and they make a great knife ;)

You know I send you love Brad K.!!

I've been following this with great interest. My wife and I spent a lot of time in Switzerland while we were stationed in Italy. The Swiss have a strong sense of national identity and they prize their culture. I'm not surprised that they took the stand they did, and I doubt seriously whether the approbation of the rest of Europe will matter a fig to them. I wish we had the moral courage to do the same, but the U.S. is so Balkanized now there's no hope of that.

Pearls, I think they have seen first hand of the slippery slope of religious freedom and freedom of speech have been taken advantage of by Islamists to create psuedo Islamic states in at least one European country.

I concur that geography had at least as much to do with the Nazis not invading Switzerland as them having rifles in their closets. It was definitely a cost to benefit ratio sort of decision.
